Concerning Holmes water or oil filled heaters - I would guess - especially new - there could be some outgas from possibly an enamel coating on the housing. Its possible to be over-rating the effect from it. The low level outgas might be 1% of exposure at the time - could be waxing and waning of the ambient exhaust and so on tweaks symptoms during the period of time the heater is on - and every exposure - especially PM (particulate matter) of combustion has an extended hangover of symptoms. Chemicals bonded to ambient PM are generally worse than a low level outgas. On the other hand - if the oil filled heaters aren't sealed very well so that volatiles from the oil are leaking out - that might be more significant.

I linked above several warm up ideas.

One is wool felt boot liners from Steger Mukluks - no odor and really good at keeping feet warm while sleeping.

Second are Husky wool Wigwam socks from Campmor - no odor either - lots of wool products have odor - but these don't.

And very helpful are closed cell foam (polyolefin) pads to sleep on. Because they are closed cell air doesn't pass through - they are warm to lay on even at 0 degrees - in contrast to the usual open cell polyurethane foam which isn't as warm. The usual thinnest closed cell pad with a uniform surface might be a little too hard a feel but the Stanlar Millenium design (linked above) may be better and Walmart may have a slightly thicker pad with some egg crate texture - the type I know is softer - along with the thin economy pad - actually I have all three of these types. The closed cell also have less odor than the polyurethane - the open cell of polyurethane hugely increases the surface area of air exchange and increases outgas that way.

Best wishes, Mike
