Seeing a doctor is sometimes essential - but often life threatening. Do not take medical advice unless fully understanding and in agreement. Make it your decision. Medications - a leading cause of death - are extremely overused in the United States. Improving lifestyle is preferred - most conditions result from a touch of genetics combined with diet/exercise habits (SJF, LE) - and an ambient combustion aerosol (ACA) promoting insidious neurodegeneration.
Study this book carefully - details and overall context matter - rereading as necessary. You want to learn and be intentional about your health. Taking good care - and the consequences - are our responsibility.
AUSTRALIAN REVIEW 2010:
"...the majority of respondents could not identify any original cause of their condition. Less than one fifth indicated a "chemical" or "pesticide" exposure as responsible for their hypersensitivity...(Caress 2003)...
...a more recent Canadian survey also revealed a female predominance amongst MCS subjects with the greatest percentage of MCS cases occurring at 45-64 years of age...(Park and Knudson 2007)..."
"...approximately 60-80% of people diagnosed with environmental sensitivities in various surveys are female (Caress 2004, 2003, 2002) Gibson 2003, Joffres 2001, McKeown-Eyssen 2001, 2000)...
...the prevalence of environmental sensitivities increases with age. For example, the prevalence of unexplained physical symptoms (chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and multiple chemical sensitivity) in Canadians increases with age from 1.6% of people aged 12 to 24 years to 6.9% in people 45 to 64 years old (Park 2007). In a Statistics Canada survey of Canadian nurses, 1.4% of nurses younger than 35 years reported chemical sensitivities, which increased to 3.7% in nurses 35-44 years old, and 4.3% and 4.8% in successive decades (Statistics Canada 2005). Similarly, in studies in Arizona, 15% of college students and 37% of elderly participants reported heightened sensitivity to chemicals (Caress 2004, Bell 1993)..."
Phase I and II Detox Enzymes Defined:
Phase I reactions form a new or modified functional group or a cleavage (oxidation, reduction, hydrolysis). These are non synthetic - the most important are cytochrome P450 isoenzymes (CYPs) that transfer electrons and catalyze oxidation.
Phase II reactions are synthetic - involving conjugation with an endogenous compound forming metabolites more polar and readily excreted by the kidneys and liver in urine and bile.
BLOCK 2012:
"...The epithelium of olfactory mucosa has high activity and expression of cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoforms including CYP1A2, 2A, 2B, 2E, and 2G (Longo 2000, Livertoux 1996, Voight 1993). These phase I enzymes catalyze the biotransformation of ambient air pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, semi-quinones and quinones into toxic metabolites, such as mutagenic epoxide or reactive oxygen species...
...phase II enzymes in the nasal cavity epithelium, such as UFP-glucuronosyltransferase, epoxide hydrolase, sulfotransferases, and glutathione-S-transferases (Bond 1988), function to detoxify the reactive metabolites formed by CYP dependent activities. Thus, the appropriate balance of phase I and II enzymes in the epithelium of olfactory mucosa may provide a first line of defence for the brain, limiting axonal transport of ambient air pollutants and toxic metabolites from the olfactory nerve cells to the olfactory bulb..."
Sensory receptor activation and alveolar macrophage involvement in damaged airway epithelium due to ACA PM - changes in the innate inflammatory immune system (Hogg 2009, Abbas 2007) - result in release of mediators - neuropeptides, cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors (Dantoft 2014, Maes 2012, Deering-Rice 2011, Hazari 2011, Costa 2010, Deluca 2010, Taylor-Clark 2010, Caceres 2009, Anand 2008, Bessac 2008), Nassenstein 2008, Bautista 2006, Inoue 2005, Kobayashi 2005, Veronesi 2001), increase in circulating leukocytes, production of acute phase proteins Hiraiwa 2014, 2013, Hogg 2009, Goto 2004, Mukae 2001), nitric oxide overproduction (Maes 2012, Deluca 2010, Calderon-Garciduenas 2008), and dysfunction of Phase I and II xenobiotic and antioxidant enzymes in a systemic condition of severe oxidative stress (Deluca 2010, Liptrott 2009, Oslund 2008, Chun 2002, Sterner-Kock 1999, Tinel 1999, Tanabe 1996, Tapner 1996, Nadin 1995, Stadler 1994, Khatsenko 1993).
Tailpipe and Chimney Emissions: Horizontal Coning
Emission plume modeling has been applied to power plants. Effective stack height is the actual plus upward motion of pollution due to heat. Several plume shapes are possible - principle are neutral coning and inversion limited mixing.
Neutral cone is achieved most afternoons - horizontal with the wind - approx equal projection of pollutants down and upward - atmosphere cooler with height. Inversion limited mixing occurs most frequently evenings through midmorning - upward movement is flattened by warm air over cold at 600-1500 feet.
Effective stack height of tailpipe and residential chimney emission is a very short distance upward before horizontally projecting a continuous ground level concentration - acute symptoms or masking all the time.
