I don't know if there is any definite answer to that. When I went through the disability process I was asked to take a mental exam and lung tests - but refused to take them and didn't.
As you may know there is state agency first consideration - then if turned down - second state agency consideration if you choose to continue - then if turned down it is appeal to the administrative law judge. With MCS and no legitimate tests for proof usually you have to see the administrative law judge - so the process may take over a year.
What I just described was true in 2001-03. The operations manual referring to Environmental illness stated the disease is often accompanied by a lack of laboratory evidence but can be decided by a judgement on all the facts of the case with medical proof possibly satisfied by a Doctor's statement of observed signs and symptoms. That was true in my case. I provided no evidence from testing.
At first consideration they sent me to a doctor who supported my claim as MCS and supplied letters stating his observation of my hyperinflammatory condition - requiring avoidance - and precluding my active involvement in the work system.
I would think the following might be true:
If you are honestly disabled apply.
Make sure evidence is from an MD (medical doctor) not a naturopathic.
Provide all evidence you again of your disability such as third party statements who have witnessed your condition or situation. A medical doctor's documentation is most important but supporting evidence of your disability as I just mentioned may also be helpful.
Taking tests that might be construed as indicating you are not disabled or used to put a psych label on you are reasons why I am leery of tests.
If you have positive documentation from a medical doctor you don't want to contradict it or give them opportunity to create evidence such as a phony psych label.
And again honestly disabled just keep your part straight and true would be my advice.
If you want to discuss it further your welcome to leave a message and have me call you.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the message - I'm glad you are feeling improvement.
I deleted that blog thinking it may not have been polite or very good for everyone to read.
Thanks again, Mike
